To those to live, work and learn on campus,

we want to thank everyone who has signed our petition so far.  We are continuing to collect signatures, with the goal of convincing the Administration to fix the exterior stairs around the campus  As everyone who spends any time on campus knows, the exterior stairs are in disrepair and pose a real danger to everyone – to faculty, to staff, and to students.

As Senator Mike Rodrigues has recently stated here“Now when I go on campus, as I do regularly, and I look around and I realize that those are the same windows, these are the same doors, these are the same roofs … this is the same broken concrete that was here when I was a student there last century.”

Not addressing the desperately needed repairs to these stairs gives the impression that the University does not care about the environment in which we work and learn. It negatively impacts our brand, it hurts recruitment and retention efforts, and its harms our reputation with the students and with the public.

The UMass Dartmouth Faculty Federation & ESU Action Team has drafted the attached petition asking that the stairs on campus be repaired. State funds from the forthcoming BRIGHT Act (which is intended to address deferred maintenance issues across state’s colleges and universities) could be allocated to do this if the campus Administration chose to do so.

Do you want to see our stairs fixed? If so, sign out petition:https://forms.gle/t4Xf118TLoZRpFyC9

 In Solidarity,

Action Team!
