Dear Colleagues,

the Federation’s negotiating team has completed reviewing the various contract proposals that were submitted by members and has created a final package of proposals that the Federation will bring to the negotiating table.  These proposals address faculty workload, office hours and compensation. It also includes a proposal to have the directors of academic programs be nominated by the faculty teaching in the program, in the same way that department chairs are.  These program directors do much the same work as department chairs so it would be appropriate that they are nominated by and evaluated by the faculty.

Other items include increasing bereavement leave and creating “personal days” for faculty that can be used when they need to miss class for a reason that is not health related– all other campus employees have something like this, as do the faculty at the state universities.

The proposals will be presented to the membership at a special meeting of the faculty unit to be held in CCB 248 on Friday, February 28 starting at 2 pm.

The proposal package is attached for people to review prior to the meeting.  The current contract language is in black, with strike-through for the text proposed to be removed and proposed new text in color.

A Zoom listening link will be provided upon request, please contact Stacey.

Finally, many thanks to the members of the Faculty Federation Negotiating Team who spent many hours to review and consider the various proposals submitted: Josh Botvin, Eric Casero, Cathy Curran, Megan Dawe, Lorraine Heffernan, Dayalan Kasilingam, Eric Larson, Nate Rubien, Viviane Saleh-Hanna, Kristen Sethares, Amy Vaughan-Thomas.  Special thanks to our AFT Field Representative, Mike Regan.

In Solidarity!
